Super El Niño to Bring Above-Normal Snowfall to Western U.S.
A strong El Niño event is expected to bring significant weather changes across the United States this winter, according to a recent forecast by OpenSnow. While much of the country will experience above-average temperatures, regions in the western U.S., including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming, are projected to see above-normal snowfall. Meteorologist Andrew Brady highlighted that the super El Niño will likely result in an active southern storm track, leading to increased precipitation in the mid-Atlantic, South, and West. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has reported a 90% chance of a very strong El Niño developing between October and December 2026, with a 69% likelihood of it reaching historic levels.
