Mississippi Establishes Statewide Cybersecurity Hub to Enhance Security Efforts
Mississippi has enacted new legislation to create a statewide security operations center (SSOC) within the Department of Information Technology Services (ITS). Governor Tate Reeves signed Senate Bill 2654, which outlines the establishment and oversight of the SSOC. The center aims to unify and standardize cybersecurity efforts across state agencies, focusing on security monitoring, threat detection, and incident response. The legislation mandates that state agencies adhere to statewide security standards and report incidents, with state officials authorized to enforce compliance. The SSOC will also collaborate with public universities and community colleges to develop a cybersecurity talent pipeline. This initiative is part of Mississippi's broader efforts to address cybersecurity deficiencies, which have been identified as significant threats to the state.
