Robert Bly, National Book Award Winner, Remembered by Poets
Three accomplished poets, Thomas R. Smith, Dougie Padilla, and Timothy Young, have collaborated on a new book titled "In the Bear's Cabin" to honor the late Robert Bly, a National Book Award-winning poet. Bly, who passed away in 2021, was born in 1926 near Madison, Minnesota, and was known for his significant contributions as a translator, poet, and mentor. He advocated for a new generation of poets and challenged traditional American poetry. The book, published by APSU Publishing, an imprint of the Minnesota Men's Conference, features prefaces from each poet detailing Bly's influence on their lives, followed by their own poetry. Smith, Padilla, and Young have been actively involved in Bly's circle for over 40 years, including his work with the mythopoetic men's movement.
