Providence's AI-Powered Cancer Screening Program Aims for National Expansion
Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo has implemented an AI-powered pathology screening program called Precision4ME, which has been instrumental in diagnosing rare genetic conditions like Lynch syndrome. This program helped identify a 20-millimeter tumor in a patient, Merritt Johnson, potentially saving his life. Lynch syndrome is a genetic disorder linked to high cancer risk, yet only 10% of those affected are aware of their condition. The program's success in early detection has prompted plans for national expansion. Precision4ME uses AI to efficiently assess pathology reports, identifying genetic predispositions to various cancers, including colorectal and breast cancer.
