Indigenous Leaders Present 12-Point Plan to UN for Rights Protection
Indigenous leaders have presented a 12-point plan to the United Nations, calling for stronger protections for Indigenous rights, lands, and voices. The proposal addresses the impacts of climate change, violence, and other crises on Indigenous communities. It emphasizes the need for action to protect Indigenous land and rights, preserve languages, and ensure data sovereignty. The plan also calls for increased Indigenous participation in global affairs and the implementation of the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Financial challenges facing the U.N. Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) were also highlighted.
