Social Media Campaign Raises $2M for Veteran's Retirement, Inspires Nationwide Support for Others
Ed Bambas, an 88-year-old veteran, experienced a life-changing event when a video of him bagging groceries went viral on social media. The video, shared by influencer Samuel Weidenhofer, highlighted Bambas' financial struggles, particularly the cost of caring for his wife, which prevented him from retiring. The viral video led to over 60,000 donors raising nearly $2 million for Bambas in less than a week. Inspired by this overwhelming support, Bambas is now focused on helping other veterans retire. On April 30, Weidenhofer launched the 'For Your Service Campaign' with the goal of raising $10 million to support 50 veterans, one from each state. Bambas is contributing $1,000 to each of the 50 GoFundMe campaigns to kickstart the fundraising efforts.
