University of New Haven Implements Comprehensive Mental Health Training Programs for Campus Community
The University of New Haven is offering three distinct mental health training programs to its campus community to enhance understanding and response to mental health situations, crises, and challenges. Two of these programs, Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), are evidence-based and recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). QPR training, lasting 2 to 2.5 hours, aims to equip individuals to recognize suicide warning signs, offer hope, and connect those in need with help. MHFA is an 8-hour skills-based course, preceded by 2 hours of pre-work, that educates participants on mental health and substance use issues.
