Governor Abbott Extends Workforce Pell Grant Applications to Boost Texas Workforce
Governor Greg Abbott has announced an extension for the application period of the federal Workforce Pell Grant program in Texas. This initiative, established under the Trump Administration as part of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act of 2025, aims to provide federal financial aid for short-term certificate and credential programs. The program is designed to help working adults, recent high school graduates, and other Texans quickly earn credentials for high-demand, high-wage careers. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, in collaboration with the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Workforce Investment Council, is overseeing the implementation of this program. Eligible programs must meet federal performance standards, including a 70 percent completion and job placement rate. The extension allows more colleges and technical schools to submit eligible programs, expanding access to training in fields such as construction, healthcare, information technology, and advanced manufacturing.
