Governor Abbott Proposes Plan to Break Energy Monopolies in Texas Cities
Governor Greg Abbott has announced a new plan aimed at dismantling energy monopolies in Texas cities such as San Antonio and Austin. The initiative seeks to introduce competition in the electricity market, allowing consumers to choose their electricity providers. This move is expected to reduce electricity bills for residential and commercial ratepayers. According to the plan, residential customers in Austin and San Antonio could see savings of 10% and 13% respectively, while commercial ratepayers might save up to 20%, potentially reducing costs by $3,000 annually. The plan also aims to prevent city utilities from using profits as slush funds and from imposing unrelated charges on ratepayers. Abbott's proposal is part of his broader strategy to lower energy costs and increase consumer choice.
