Jackknifed Big Rig Causes Traffic Disruption on I-238 Near San Leandro
A major traffic incident occurred on the connector between Interstates 238 and 880 near San Leandro, California, after a big rig jackknifed and blocked multiple lanes. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to crash into a sand barrel, which exploded and scattered sand across the roadway. The accident resulted in the axle being ripped off the truck, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The driver was transporting approximately 40,000 pounds of fruit from the Central Valley. CHP officials are on the scene, and lane closures are expected to remain in place for some time as crews work to clear the wreckage.
