I-70 Closure in Kansas City for Bridge Work to Affect Traffic Over Weekend
Interstate 70 near downtown Kansas City, Missouri, will be closed over the weekend for bridge work. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that the closure will begin on Friday, July 31, and continue through Monday, August 3. The closure affects both eastbound and westbound lanes between 23rd Street and the U.S. Route 40/31st Street interchange. This work is part of the Improve I-70 KC project, which began in spring 2025 and is expected to be completed by December 2028. The project includes installing girders at the Cleveland Avenue bridge and other maintenance tasks. MoDOT has provided a detailed schedule for lane and ramp closures, with all lanes and ramps expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.
