Martino, a trusted negotiator for US companies in various sectors, is accused of exacerbating extortion efforts by providing insider information to hackers. The case, described as 'groundbreaking' by the Justice Department, highlights the potential for misconduct within the cybersecurity industry. The accused allegedly facilitated ransom payments totaling over $25 million, including a $1.2 million Bitcoin payment, which they split among themselves.
