Tornado Watch and Flash Flood Warnings Issued for NYC Boroughs
Severe weather conditions are impacting New York City, with a tornado watch in effect for all five boroughs until 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Additionally, flash flood warnings have been issued for Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens until 7:15 p.m., and extended to the Bronx and Queens until 7:30 p.m. The National Weather Service (NWS) has reported heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, which could lead to flooding on highways, streets, and low-lying areas. Travel disruptions have already been observed, including delays on the Major Deegan Expressway and road closures on the Henry Hudson Parkway due to fallen trees. NYC Emergency Management has emphasized that while tornadoes are rare in the city, current atmospheric conditions could allow one to form.
