University of Vermont Expands Tuition Discounts for New England Students to Address Workforce Needs
The University of Vermont (UVM) has announced an expansion of its tuition discount program for New England students, aiming to boost enrollment and address critical workforce shortages within the state. Starting next fall, first-year and transfer students from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island who enroll in one of 31 select majors will receive a tuition discount of over 35% on UVM's standard out-of-state tuition. This initiative will reduce their estimated tuition to $30,240, representing a saving of more than $18,000 annually. According to Jay Jacobs, UVM’s vice president for enrollment management, the strategy is to make their education more affordable. The included majors span the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Education and Social Services, and the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, all chosen to align with Vermont's workforce demands in sectors like agriculture, education, and human services.
