Pentagon Considers Ukraine's Magura USVs for U.S. Military Use Amid High Combat Readiness
The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has initiated a competition to acquire drone-carrying uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) that are ready for immediate deployment. Among the contenders is Ukraine's Magura series, which has demonstrated significant combat effectiveness by sinking 11 Russian warships and downing four Russian aircraft. The DIU is seeking mature, commercially available systems with specific capabilities, including a minimum operational range of 200 nautical miles and the ability to carry multiple drones. The Magura USVs, developed by UForce, exceed these requirements and are already being co-produced in the U.S. with ReconCraft, enhancing their potential for selection.
