Chicago Community Rallies for Justice in Unsolved Fatal Hit-and-Run Case
Hundreds of protesters gathered in Pilsen, Chicago, demanding justice for Marcela Herrera, a 22-year-old woman who was killed in a hit-and-run incident nine months ago. The march, organized by Herrera's family and friends, moved from Harrison Park to the Chicago Police Department’s 12th District precinct. Demonstrators expressed frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation, despite surveillance footage capturing a dark-colored Dodge Journey leaving the scene. Herrera was struck and killed while crossing the street with her fiancé, Mauricio Leyva, who was seriously injured. The family and community members are calling for more communication and action from the police, as initial responsiveness from detectives has waned.
