Juvenile Critically Injured in East Columbia Shooting; Suspect Detained
A juvenile is in critical condition after being shot in east Columbia, Missouri, on Tuesday evening. The Columbia Police Department (CPD) responded to a shots-fired call in the 5700 block of Canaveral Drive. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile victim with a gunshot wound who was subsequently transported to a local hospital. The victim's condition is reported as critical. Law enforcement also detained a juvenile suspect near the scene in connection with the incident. The area was taped off by police, with a significant emergency response including EMS, fire trucks, and numerous law enforcement vehicles. Reporters observed at least 13 evidence markers and a vehicle that appeared to have crashed into a home on Port Way, near the shooting location. A neighbor reported witnessing shots fired at the vehicle from the street. The CPD has described the investigation as ongoing.
