Steve Ballmer's Donation Transforms St. Cecilia's Gym into Detroit Youth Hub
St. Cecilia's Gym in Detroit, a historic basketball venue, is set to be transformed into a youth hub with a $20 million investment. The project, spearheaded by the nonprofit Say Detroit, aims to double the number of children it serves by converting the gym into a play center focused on academics, community, and culture. This initiative is supported by a significant donation from Steve Ballmer, former Microsoft CEO and Detroit native. The gym, once a magnet for basketball talent, will now serve as a community asset offering enrichment and support for children and families. The renovation is expected to be completed by 2028.
