Gaza's Humanitarian Crisis Persists Amid Restricted Movement and Political Stalemate
Six months after a ceasefire agreement intended to bring peace and reconstruction to Gaza, the region remains in turmoil. Despite the opening of the Rafah crossing, movement in and out of Gaza is still heavily restricted, with only 1,800 patients having left for medical treatment abroad, leaving many more waiting. The anticipated arrival of a technocratic government and the implementation of reconstruction plans, as proposed by the U.S. under President Trump, have not materialized. Hamas continues to consolidate its power, expanding civilian services and maintaining control over public order, despite ongoing Israeli strikes. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with high unemployment and poverty levels, and the population largely dependent on external aid.
