Fort Polk Soldier's Wife Returns Home After Deportation Flight Intervention
Maisa Lopes Eliaser, wife of Fort Polk Army Staff Sergeant Alexis Jaramillo, has returned home to Leesville, Louisiana, after being pulled from a deportation flight. Eliaser was initially detained on July 8 in Montgomery, Alabama, while attempting to finalize her green card, due to a missed biometrics appointment. She was subsequently placed on a deportation flight to Brazil on August 12. However, during a layover in Colombia, a phone call to ICE agents led to her removal from the flight. Arizona Senator Mark Kelly directly intervened with the Department of Homeland Security to facilitate Eliaser's return. Upon her arrival back in Louisiana, she was reunited with her husband and five-year-old son. Her husband, Staff Sergeant Jaramillo, described the reunion as incredibly emotional, noting his son's joyous reaction. The experience of detention has reportedly taken a toll on Eliaser, who lost weight and now struggles with sleep, according to her husband.
