Global Plastics Treaty Discussions Highlight Zero Waste as Climate Strategy
At the Road to Antalya: Zero Waste as Climate Action forum in Türkiye, delegates from 183 countries discussed the evolving understanding of zero waste as a climate strategy rather than just a waste management approach. The forum emphasized the need to prevent waste production at its source, focusing on product design, toxic additives, and producer responsibility. This shift in perspective is crucial as global negotiations on the Global Plastics Treaty highlight the unsustainable nature of current plastic production levels. The discussions are particularly relevant for countries like India, which is expanding its petrochemical sector despite the global push towards reducing material throughput.
