Illinois Hospitals See Improved Safety Grades Following Court Ruling on Leapfrog Ratings
Illinois hospitals have shown an improvement in safety grades, with fewer institutions receiving F and D ratings from the Leapfrog Group. This change follows a court decision that challenged the methodology used by Leapfrog in assigning these grades. The ruling criticized Leapfrog's approach, particularly its penalization of hospitals that did not participate in its survey. As a result, Leapfrog has temporarily stopped grading hospitals that did not complete the survey, affecting about 450 hospitals nationwide. In Illinois, 81 hospitals received grades, down from 108 in the previous period. Despite the controversy, many hospitals in Illinois have maintained or improved their safety grades, with several achieving straight A's.
