Albany Woman Charged in ISIS-Inspired Plot to Bomb New York State Capitol
Jessica Bowie, a 35-year-old woman from Albany, has been charged with planning an ISIS-inspired bomb attack on the New York State Capitol. Federal authorities stated that Bowie told confidential informants she intended to acquire bombs and weapons to carry out a terror attack, aiming to kill as many lawmakers as possible in support of ISIS. Text messages included in a federal criminal complaint show Bowie expressing a desire to 'destroy as much of the building as possible and kill the senators while they are meeting.' She also allegedly stated her intention to 'harm the enemies of God' before fleeing to the Middle East. Investigators reported that Bowie conducted surveillance of the Capitol at least five times between July 21 and August 9, during which she was observed photographing the area.
