Kissimmee City Attorney Sues City Over Alleged Retaliation
Olga Sanchez de Fuentes, the former city attorney of Kissimmee, Florida, has filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming her termination was retaliatory. The lawsuit alleges that she was fired after warning that Mayor Jackie Espinosa's acceptance of city grant money violated Florida ethics laws. The grants, part of the Business Boost 2.0 program funded by federal pandemic relief money, were awarded to businesses tied to Espinosa's family. A special prosecutor found probable cause for impeachment articles against Espinosa, citing conflicts of interest and failure to disclose personal interests. The lawsuit, filed under Florida’s Public Sector Whistleblower’s Act, seeks damages exceeding $50,000. The city has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
