Hunger Strike at Delaney Hall Detention Facility Highlights Immigration Issues
Detainees at Delaney Hall, the largest immigration detention facility on the East Coast, have launched a hunger and labor strike demanding better conditions and due process in their immigration cases. The strike, which began on May 22, calls for the release of vulnerable detainees and an end to coercive deportation practices. Allegations of poor conditions, including decaying food and medical neglect, have been raised by detainees. The GEO Group, which operates the facility, and the Department of Homeland Security have largely dismissed these claims. The strike has drawn support from outside activists and mutual aid groups, who have been providing assistance to detainees and their families.
