Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Franklin Sports After Child's Badminton Accident in Maine
The family of 6-year-old Lucy Morgan has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Franklin Sports, Inc., following her death from a badminton incident in Limerick, Maine. The lawsuit, filed by law firm Berman & Simmons, alleges that a metal shaft from a Franklin Sports badminton racket separated from its handle and struck Lucy in the head, piercing her skull. The incident occurred on June 1, 2024, while Lucy's older siblings were playing badminton during a family vacation. Lucy, from New Jersey, was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland but succumbed to her injuries on June 5, 2024. The complaint claims the racket was defective and unreasonably dangerous due to inadequate securing of the handle and metal stem, defective adhesive, and the absence of a secondary restraint to prevent the metal portion from becoming a projectile.
