Prallsville Mills Transforms from Historic Industrial Site to Thriving Arts and Event Destination
The Prallsville Mills complex in Stockton, New Jersey, a site with industrial roots dating back to 1720, has successfully transitioned into a vibrant center for arts, recreation, and events. Located directly across the Delaware River from Bucks County, the 10-acre complex features 10 buildings, including an 1877 grist mill. Originally established by Daniel Howell as a wooden grist mill, the site expanded under John Prall Jr. in 1794 to include a gristmill, sawmill, linseed oil mill, and grain silo, serving as a significant riverside industrial operation. Following the cessation of industrial activities, preservation efforts began, leading to New Jersey acquiring the property in 1973. The Delaware River Mill Society took over stewardship in 1976, and the complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in the 1970s. Today, it hosts gallery openings, concerts, weddings, fine arts and crafts shows, festivals, and fitness classes, with the restored Grist Mill being a popular venue for events.
