Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates Unveils Public Data Dashboard for Criminal Cases
Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates has launched a new public data dashboard designed to provide residents with transparency into how his office handles criminal cases. Unveiled on Tuesday, the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators (PPI) dashboard allows users to examine Circuit and District Court cases, including filings, outcomes, sentencing, and dismissals. The data can be filtered by offense type and defendant demographics. Bates acknowledged that his office previously lacked comprehensive data collection, particularly for 2020, 2021, and 2022, despite public claims to the contrary. Since taking office in 2023, Bates has worked with PPI to improve internal data tracking, requiring prosecutors to complete specific forms. The dashboard currently contains data through the end of 2025 and is expected to be updated quarterly. This initiative aims to offer the public a tool to measure the performance of the office responsible for prosecuting crimes in Baltimore.
