Patagonia Under Red Alert as Extreme Cold and Snowfall Intensify
The Patagonia region in Argentina is under a red alert due to extreme cold temperatures and heavy snowfall, with conditions expected to worsen. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) has warned of a severe weather phenomenon that could lead to disasters, particularly affecting the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz. Temperatures have plummeted, with some areas experiencing lows of -16.2°C, making them colder than parts of Antarctica. The cold has led to road closures and travel advisories, urging residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and to use chains on vehicles if travel is essential.
