Illinois Lawmaker Faces Felony Charge for Allegedly Voting on Behalf of Deceased Mother
Sylvia Sims Bolton, an alderperson from Waukegan, Illinois, is facing a felony charge for allegedly casting a vote on behalf of her deceased mother. Bolton, a Democrat, appeared in Lake County Court after being charged with mutilation of election material and disregarding election code. The investigation began when a vote-by-mail ballot associated with a deceased voter was flagged during a post-election review. Bolton reportedly filled out and submitted the ballot for her mother, who passed away in January, and signed her name.
