Engineer Establishes Self-Serve Produce Stand to Enhance Access to Local Food in Lexington Park
In Lexington Park, Maryland, a new self-serve produce stand named Potluck Produce Stand has been established to provide residents with convenient access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The stand, located at 46325 Rue Purchase Road, operates daily from sunrise to sunset and features a self-checkout system. It offers seasonal produce sourced from local farms, fresh-cut flowers, and a custom-built aquaponics herb garden where customers can harvest their own herbs. The initiative was spearheaded by Lindsay Digman, an engineer, who aimed to make fresh, locally grown food more accessible to the community. The stand partners with local farms such as Kate Chandler Campus Community Farm and Sassafras Farm, supporting sustainable agriculture and community-focused missions.
