One Dead, Two Injured in Kearns Church Shooting; Schools Placed on Secure Protocol
A shooting incident at a church in Kearns, Utah, resulted in one fatality and two injuries on Monday. The Unified Police Department responded to a call for police presence at a church near 5000 South 4600 West. Officers were already on the scene when shots were fired just before 11:30 a.m. One man sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. A second victim, also critically injured, was transported to a hospital after individuals attempted to flee the scene with him in a vehicle, leading to a brief police chase. A third male victim with critical injuries was also found at the church and taken for treatment. Following the incident, West Kearns Elementary, Gourley Elementary, and Kearns Jr. High were placed on a secure protocol as a precautionary measure, which was later lifted. Assistant Chief Justin Hoyal confirmed that an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
