President Trump Expands Pledge to Protect Consumers from Data Center Energy Costs
President Donald Trump has expanded a pledge aimed at shielding U.S. consumers from potential energy cost hikes due to the proliferation of data centers. This initiative, which involves governors and electricity companies, is a response to growing concerns about the environmental impact and rising utility bills associated with data centers. The pledge, which is nonbinding, aims to ensure that the costs of increased electricity demand from data centers do not fall on consumers. Nearly 200 stakeholders, including utilities and data center developers, have committed to this pledge, which covers 80% of power delivered to U.S. households and businesses. The move comes amid bipartisan concerns over the environmental and economic impacts of data centers, with some states already implementing measures to ensure data centers bear the costs of their electricity usage.
