One pattern involves damage to the brain's small blood vessels, while the other is linked to amyloid-beta buildup. Both patterns are connected to higher levels of a blood marker associated with abnormal tau, leading to brain shrinkage and memory loss. The findings suggest that Alzheimer's disease may not be driven by a single process, but rather by a combination of factors, which could explain the varied responses to treatments among patients.
