Two Arrested for Financial Exploitation of Older Waverly Residents
The Waverly Police Department has arrested Renee Owens, 49, and Jonathon Owens, 27, both residents of Waverly at the time of the alleged crime, in connection with the financial exploitation of two older Waverly residents. According to KCRG Staff, the victims lost over $38,000. The criminal complaints state that the two individuals abused their power of attorney rights over the victims from May of last year through March of this year. During this nearly 11-month period, the victims' purchase history reportedly increased by 300 percent. Investigators allege that Renee Owens spent more than $34,000 on various items including streaming subscriptions, gas, online gaming, TikTok Shop purchases, bills, camping, vehicle repairs, retail shopping, and cash withdrawals. Jonathon Owens is accused of spending over $4,000 of the victims' money on online gaming, veterinary bills, and vehicle repairs. Both Renee and Jonathon Owens admitted to police that they were not acting in the best interest of the victims.
