California Faces Late Winter Sunrises Under Permanent Daylight Saving Time
A proposal to adopt permanent daylight saving time across the United States has reignited debates about its impact on daily life. If implemented, California cities like Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco would experience significantly later winter sunrises, with times reaching 8:00 a.m., 8:24 a.m., and 8:25 a.m., respectively. Crescent City, located in the northwestern part of the state, would see sunrises as late as 8:44 a.m. While this change would provide more evening daylight, it raises concerns about darker mornings, particularly for schoolchildren and early commuters. The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed a bipartisan measure to make daylight saving time permanent, but the Senate's support remains uncertain. The debate has also sparked discussions about the potential benefits and drawbacks of year-round daylight saving time versus permanent standard time.
