Reps. Barr and Craig Introduce Bill to Reverse Impending Hemp Ban
Representatives Andy Barr (R-KY) and Angie Craig (D-MN) have introduced the Lawful Hemp Protection Act to counteract a 2025 ban that would make over 90% of current hemp products illegal by November 12. The ban, supported by drug safety advocates, aims to remove intoxicating hemp products from the market. However, it faces opposition from the hemp industry, which argues that the ban threatens farmers and businesses. Barr and Craig's bill proposes a 1% total THC limit on a dry-weight basis, higher than the current 0.3% limit, and includes regulatory measures such as age restrictions and marketing standards to prevent products from being targeted at children.
