Monsoon Storms Cause Power Outages and Fires Across Phoenix Area
Monsoon storms swept through the Phoenix area early Tuesday morning, causing widespread power outages, fires, and traffic delays. The storms, which began before 4 a.m., brought heavy rain and lightning, sparking several tree fires in the East Valley and causing loud thunder in central Phoenix. Over 3,300 Arizona Public Service customers and more than 2,100 Salt River Project customers experienced power outages. A ground stop was temporarily in effect at Sky Harbor Airport, delaying nearly 100 flights. Firefighters responded to multiple incidents, including a house fire near Central Avenue and Camelback Road, where lightning is suspected as a possible cause.
