Senator Alsobrooks Proposes Legislation to Exempt School Supplies from Trump Tariffs
Democratic Senator Angela Alsobrooks from Maryland is set to introduce the Back-to-School Supplies Affordability Act, which aims to exempt school supplies from tariffs imposed by President Trump. The bill targets items such as backpacks, lunch boxes, notebooks, pencils, and crayons, which have seen price increases due to tariffs. The National Retail Federation projects that parents will spend $146.45 per child on school supplies this year, a slight increase from the previous year. Alsobrooks argues that the legislation will help reduce costs for families, teachers, and local governments affected by the tariffs.
