The Dudley Fire, a natural-cause wildfire, has been burning for five days in Shoshone County, Idaho, approximately five miles north of Wallace. As of August 31, 2026, the fire has consumed 553 acres (2.2 km²) of timber litter and understory. Managed by a Type 3 Incident Command, the fire is exhibiting active behavior, including uphill runs, flanking, and torching. Containment efforts have reached 14%, with 221 personnel assigned to the operation. Suppression costs have totaled $1,867,626 so far. This fire is part of the region's typical fire season, which spans from June to October. Nationally, 3,142,562 hectares have burned in 2026, which is 43% below the two-decade average.
