Big Bear Bald Eagle Jackie Shows Improvement Amid Critical Condition
Jackie, a well-known bald eagle from Big Bear Lake, is currently under intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center. Despite being in critical condition, Jackie has shown signs of improvement. The eagle, identified as patient 26-519, has been receiving continuous supportive treatment as veterinarians work to uncover the cause of her severe anemia. Recently, Jackie responded positively to a life-saving blood transfusion, although her condition briefly worsened when her blood values declined. However, her condition has since improved, with noticeable increases in her energy and alertness. Her packed cell volume, a key indicator of red blood cell levels, has risen from 8% to 16%, which, while still below normal, is seen as a positive development. Despite extensive testing, the underlying cause of her illness remains unidentified.
