Dry Weather and Fire Risks in the Corn Belt on April 24, 2026
The National Weather Service has issued warnings for dry conditions across several Corn Belt states, including western Minnesota, northwestern and west-central Iowa, northeast Nebraska, and central South Dakota. These areas are experiencing low relative humidity, which is expected to drop to around 25% this afternoon, creating conditions conducive to wildfires. In eastern Colorado, red flag warnings are in effect due to even lower humidity levels, expected to fall to around 7%, combined with sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. These conditions significantly increase the risk of rapid fire spread, prompting the NWS to advise caution to prevent sparks.
