Texas ICE Agent Christian Castro Released from Custody Amidst Extradition Battle with Minnesota
Christian Castro, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent charged with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime in Minnesota, has been released from a Texas jail. Castro was arrested by Texas Rangers on May 29, following a warrant issued by Hennepin County, Minnesota, on May 18. The charges stem from a January incident in Minneapolis where Castro is accused of firing his gun through a closed door, injuring Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg. Three other individuals were in the home, and a bullet was found in a child's bedroom wall. Castro also faces charges for falsely reporting a crime, as he claimed Sosa-Celis and another Venezuelan immigrant assaulted him with a broom and snow shovel before he fired his weapon. These assault charges against the immigrants were later dropped after surveillance footage contradicted Castro's account.
