Reform UK Officials Step Down Amid Foreign Funding Allegations and Police Probe
Two senior members of Britain's populist Reform UK party have temporarily stepped down following an undercover investigation alleging the party breached electoral law by arranging for a foreign donor to fund political polling. The investigation, broadcast by Channel 4, claimed that two senior figures facilitated a U.S. company's payment of over £30,000 for three opinion polls commissioned by the party. British law prohibits foreign donations to political parties. Reform UK has denied any wrongdoing, asserting it was the target of a hoax perpetrated by climate activists. The governing Labour Party has formally requested the police investigate potential criminal offenses, including discussions about channeling a larger overseas donation through a UK intermediary. This incident coincides with the opening of Reform UK's annual conference and follows an ongoing parliamentary investigation into a separate £5 million donation received by party leader Nigel Farage in 2024.
