CHMP Recommends Approval of New Medicines and Vaccine Updates for COVID-19 Variant
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) has recommended the approval of twelve new medicines during its July 2026 meeting. Among these are treatments for high cholesterol, age-related macular degeneration, and plaque psoriasis. Notably, the CHMP has also given a positive opinion for updating the composition of several COVID-19 vaccines, including Bimervax, Comirnaty, Nuvaxovid, and Spikevax, to target the new XFG variant. This update aligns with the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) recommendations for the 2026/2027 vaccination campaign. The committee's decisions reflect ongoing efforts to address emerging health challenges and improve treatment options.
