A cyberattack on the Canvas online platform has caused significant disruptions for colleges across the United States during the critical final exam period. The platform, which is essential for managing exams, course notes, and grades, was knocked offline, affecting students and instructors who rely heavily on it during finals. The hacking group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the breach, which involved threatening to leak data from nearly 9,000 schools unless a ransom was paid. Although the platform has been restored for most users, some institutions continue to restrict access as a precaution. The breach has raised concerns about data privacy, as student ID numbers, email addresses, and other personal information may have been compromised.
