DOE's Genesis Mission Aims to Transform AI from Grid Burden to Grid Tool
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has launched the Genesis Mission, a research initiative aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance grid operations. Traditionally seen as a burden due to increased data-center demand, AI is now being positioned as a tool to improve grid management. The initiative includes 278 projects focused on using AI to optimize load and generation planning, reduce costs, and increase reliability. This marks a shift in how AI's role in energy infrastructure is perceived, with significant funding and research efforts dedicated to integrating AI into grid operations.
