University of Pittsburgh Student Nutrition Organization Rebrands to Enhance Community Engagement and Professional Development
The Student Dietetic Association at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) has rebranded as the Student Nutrition Organization (SNO). This change aims to broaden the organization's focus beyond dietetics to encompass the wider field of nutrition, welcoming all students interested in food and nutrition, not just those in specific programs. According to Caroline Passerrello, assistant professor and community coordinator in the Department of Sports Medicine and Nutrition, SHRS, the new name better reflects the breadth of the field, including food, health, science, and community. SNO offers educational programming, mentorship from professionals, and community engagement opportunities. Recent activities include collaborating with Food Recovery Heroes to combat food waste, making sandwiches for Street Medicine at Pitt, and initiating a Post-it note activity for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week.
