U.S. Navy Enforces Blockade in Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Tensions
The U.S. Navy has initiated a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint, following orders from President Trump. This action comes after peace talks between the U.S. and Iran failed, escalating tensions in the region. The blockade targets ships entering or leaving Iranian ports, with six merchant vessels already complying with U.S. directives to turn back. The blockade is enforced by over 10,000 U.S. military personnel, numerous warships, and aircraft. While humanitarian shipments are allowed, they are subject to inspection. The blockade aims to pressure Iran amid ongoing conflicts and has already impacted global oil prices, which surged above $100 per barrel.
