Dietary Polyphenols Show Promise in Modulating Inflammation and Cancer Pathways
A new review published in Food Science & Nutrition highlights the significant role of dietary polyphenols in modulating the nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway, which is crucial in chronic inflammation and various non-communicable diseases, including cancer. Researchers from Ajman University and King Khalid University conducted a comprehensive analysis, detailing how plant compounds found in foods like turmeric, green tea, grapes, berries, and soybeans can disrupt the molecular mechanisms that sustain chronic inflammation. The NF-κB pathway, while essential for immune response in healthy tissues, becomes a driver of malignancy when persistently activated, contributing to cancer development, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and neurodegenerative conditions.
